Dalam perjalanannya, We're in This Together tidak diciptakan khusus oleh Simply Red untuk Piala Eropa 1996. Karena lagu ini dirilis sebagai single keempat dan terakhir dari album mereka saat itu, Life.
Setelah masuk album itulah, lagu We're in This Together dinilai layak jadi lagu resmi gelaran Piala Eropa 1996. Lagu ini sempat tembus posisi sebelas tangga lagu di Inggris. Sementara untuk Eurochart Hot 100, single tersebut mencapai puncaknya di nomor 39.
