Bola.com, Jakarta - Legenda sepak bola dunia asal Brasil, Pele, meninggal dunia, Jumat (30/12/2022) dini hari WIB, setelah bertarung melawan penyakit kanker usus.
Pele menghembuskan napas terakhir pada usia 82 tahun di Rumah Sakit Albert Einstein, Sao Paulo, Brasil. Kabar Pele tutup usia dikonfirmasi oleh manajer bisnisnya, Joe Fraga.

Pria bernama lengkap Edson Arantes de Nascimento itu sudah lama dirawat di rumah sakit, tepatnya sejak 29 November 2022. Dia mengidap kanker kolon sejak September 2021, serta beberapa penyakit lainnya.
Pele harus melakukan proses kemoterapi untuk mengobati kanker usus. Akan tetapi, kemoterapi tersebut tak berjalan dengan baik. Selain itu, Pele juga mengalami pembengkakan dan gagal jantung.
Situasi tersebut membuat Pele mendapatkan perawatan intensif di rumah sakit. Bahkan, pria berusia 82 tahun itu sempat berada dalam kondisi kritis dan dipindahkan ke ruang perawatan paliatif.
Meski kondisinya sempat membaik, bahkan memberi ucapan saat Argentina juara Piala Dunia 2022, Pele akhirnya menutup perjuangannya pada malam tadi.
Kepergian Pele tersebut menjadi kehilangan besar bagi sepak bola dunia. Dia merupakan satu di antara pemain terbaik yang pernah mentas di panggung sepak bola dunia.
